Beware - Cost Recovery Corporation - Scam Artists

I was reading the newspaper today ( Scranton Times ) about a new scam. It seems there is a company called Cost Recovery Corporation out of Dayton,Ohio that works deals with municipalities to charge a fee for the time a police officer spends at the scene of an accident. Cost Recovery Corp. then charges this fee to the motorist when the insurance company fails to pay the fee.

You see ... police are already paid for ... by tax dollars ... so by having them charge for their services should mean the tax payers get should be getting a refund for the amount the police are charging ... of course this doesn't happen.

It seems once municipalities catch on to what is happening they act quickly to repeal any ordinances they enacted that allowed this scam to happen in the first place.

So if you get a bill from Cost Recovery Corporation out of Dayton, Ohio ... call them at 1 (888) 921-4598 .. and tell them to shove the bill up their a$$.

Don't be fooled by insurance/media spin. Tax dollars pay for criminal protection and fire protection. Crashes are negligence and civil issues. Why should I get stuck paying for something I didn't cause and didn't use the service? We HAVE to pay for insurance, they should take care of it, it's a liability cost. Don't use my $ for someone else's wreckless driving.

How anyone can see this underhanded money grab as anything other than a shakedown is beyond me. Who determines negligence (if any existed in the first place), and what are tax dollars going to if not for emergencies? This outfit should be closed down and all monies collected sent back to the taxpayers.

I drop a leave a response when I especially enjoy a post on a
website or if I have something to valuable to contribute to the discussion.
It's triggered by the passion displayed in the article I looked at. And on this article "Beware - Cost Recovery Corporation - Scam Artists". I was excited enough to drop a thought :-P I actually do have some questions for you if it's okay.
Is it just me or do a few of the remarks come across as if
they are written by brain dead individuals?
:-P And, if you are writing at other social sites, I would like
to keep up with you. Would you list every one of all your shared pages like your linkedin profile,
Facebook page or twitter feed?

why did you delete comments that you didn't like to see? If you are going to open a blog and request comments based on opinion, you shouldn't censure. Thats just as bad as big brother forcing us to believe only what they want us to believe. Is this communism at its finest? Sad, I wouldn't believe anything said here because of the obvious censorship. Lets see how long this comment lasts, prove me wrong?

I agree, all comments unless profane, should be left up allowing a non-biased overview of responses. Tax dollars only pay for the "infrastructure" allowing fire departments to be "response ready" for structure fire response. They don't cover the actual response costs, and they don't cover the additional types of response (like motor vehicle accidents) that fire departments are now required to respond to. Homeowner insurance policies, have had provisions to reimburse fire departments in place since the 1700's in fact Benjamin Franklin used to reimburse fire companies for their responses to the properties he insured.(he outfitted and funded his own fire company to respond to his own policy holders fires, but that was cost prohibitive since the costs to run a fire department are astronomical), so this is nothing new. Fire departments have historically been able to recover those funds, although insurance carriers don't like to advertise this, since they can instead hold on to the portion of your premium payment that provides for this, so many departments have not been aware these funds exist. What is changing beyond the fact that fire departments are being made more aware of thse funds that we're all paying insurance carriers to pay, but they are also learning that they can request reimbursement for the other types of response they handle (i.e. motor vehicle accident, hazmat, vehicle fire etc.) The alternative is raising taxes and I don't think very many taxpayers who also pay their insurance premiums would choose tax hikes over telling their insurance carrier who covers their losses, to cough up those funds they have been paying their premiums for. Otherwise, insurance carriers get richer and our communities suffer tax hikes or even worse, loss of emergency services and safety! (by the way, many communities don't even have a tax supported fire department in place, so they must depend on Volunteer Fire Departments for their emergency services. So everyone knows, most VFDs (volunteer fire depts) are not funded by tax dollars, and so the community they service must help raise funding through donations, fundraisers, grants, & loans. Choosing cost recovery through the at fault parties insurance coverage allows those policy premiums to go to work for the community, as intended, and even further, for non-resident at fault parties who don't contribute at all to the community, it saves the local community from having to locally shoulder (incur) expenses caused by a non-resident! Lots of good reasons that cost recovery through insurance reimbursement is important for our communities safety. Most importantly, almost no fire department actually passes any out of pocket costs for any unpaid balance, on to the policy holder. They accept whatever is paid by the insurance carrier, as payment in full! They are your community protector for a reason, and they do their best to protect your safety while also working to fiscally protect you as well!
